This is me
I am Sylvia Yung-Hsin Hsueh, an international student from Taipei, Taiwan. As a global citizen, I have had the privilege to live in Taiwan, Singapore and Australia. Currently, I am in my final year of studying medicine at Deakin University. I am passionate about teaching, global health and the wellbeing of the international community, for which I have partaken in various leadership roles serving in those areas of my passion.

Surgery & Medicine.
During my time at Deakin, I have taken up various leadership opportunities in areas of my passion, which I believe embodies the meaning of Deakin Excellence in leadership hallmark.
I am a proud Maths Mentor as part of the Student Helping Student Hub. In this role, I have developed invaluable mentoring and communications skills that enable me to help students in building their confidence in math.
As an international student myself, I have taken up leadership roles such as the Clinical International Student Representative to advocate and support the wellbeing of our international medical student community, especially through tough times like the COVID pandemic.
I have also taken up the role of Student Ambassador of DeakinTALENT to empower and support other students on their journey to employment.
As a medical student and an aspiring surgeon, I took pride in leading Deakin Surgical Interest Group (DSIG) in promoting surgery as a career among our peers as well as striving for changes towards a more gender-equal and diverse future for surgery.
These opportunities have enabled me to contribute to the changes I wish to see in areas of my passion. Through these endeavours, I believe I had made a positive impact on the various communities I served.
In the future, I wish to use the leadership skills I have developed to strive for positive changes in my medical career and continue learning and building on my leadership skills.
